Myths about Hospice

Myth 1

Once admitted to the Hospice In patient Unit you will not return home.

The Truth

Patients are not just admitted to the In Patient Unit for terminal care. In the In Patient Unit we also admit patients for pain and symptom control and for respite (rest period for patients and their families). When patients` pain and symptoms are controlled they are discharged home in the care of the Palliative Care trained Home Based Care Sister.

Statistics

2009 – 2010: 36 % of the patients who are admitted to the In Patient Unit actually went back home again.

Myth 2

The truth

Palliative Care is rendered to all individuals diagnosed with a terminal illness irrespective of gender, culture, nationality or age. We have individuals of all ages on our program.
